Design Details
Obverse
The obverse depicts the infamous British pirate Blackbeard, whose real name was Edward Teach. He stands with a pair of pistols crossed in his arms while a parrot rests upon his shoulder. Blackbeard’s elaborate wardrobe reflects the classic image of an 18th-century pirate captain. In the background, a tropical shoreline with palm trees and a treasure chest completes the dramatic scene. Rim inscriptions read “BLACKBEARD” and “AVAST YE!” displayed on a stylized scroll in an Old English typeface.
Reverse
The reverse features Blackbeard’s legendary flagship, Queen Anne’s Revenge, sailing across the open sea with its sails fully raised. The vessel’s main sail bears the infamous skull-and-crossbones symbol associated with pirate ships of the era. Cannons fire from the ship’s side while seagulls circle above the turbulent waters. Ornamental depictions of a mariner’s astrolabe appear on each side of the design, referencing the navigation tools used by sailors.
