Design Details
The story of HMS Bounty is one of the most famous events in naval history. The ship was launched in 1784 and later purchased by the British Royal Navy for a botanical mission to transport breadfruit plants from Tahiti to British colonies in the Caribbean.
During the voyage, growing tensions between Captain William Bligh and members of the crew resulted in the historic mutiny of April 28, 1789. Led by Fletcher Christian, the mutineers seized control of the ship and set Captain Bligh and loyal crew members adrift in a small boat. Bligh later completed an extraordinary 3,600 mile navigation to safety.
The mutineers eventually found refuge on the remote Pitcairn Islands, where their descendants still live today. The legacy of the HMS Bounty has inspired books, films, and maritime legend for more than two centuries.
Obverse

Reverse
The reverse displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by inscriptions identifying the monarch and the denomination “ONE DOLLAR.” This portrait confirms the coin’s status as legal tender issued under the authority of the Cook Islands.
