Each 2020 5 oz America the Beautiful National Park of American Samoa Silver Coin is struck on a large silver planchet designed to showcase intricate artistic detail. The expansive surface area allows the imagery to capture both the natural environment and wildlife that define the national park.
 
National Park of American Samoa is the only U.S. national park located south of the equator. Spread across three islands, the park protects more than 13,500 acres of tropical rainforest, coral reefs, and coastal waters while preserving the traditional culture of the Samoan people.
 
Obverse
 
The obverse features the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington, based on the original 1932 quarter design created by John Flanagan. This enduring design appears across the entire America the Beautiful series and provides a consistent visual link to classic U.S. coinage.

The reverse showcases one of the region’s most recognizable native species—the Samoa flying fox. The design depicts a mother bat protecting her pup, symbolizing family bonds and the fragile ecosystems preserved within the park. Flying foxes are native to American Samoa, Samoa, and Fiji, thriving within tropical and subtropical forest environments.
