Design Details
 
Obverse
 
The obverse features the official coat of arms of Barbados. The central shield displays two Pride of Barbados flowers, the national flower, along with the bearded fig tree (Ficus citrifolia) from which the island derives its name. Supporting the shield are a dolphin, representing the fishing industry, and a pelican, referencing historic Pelican Island. Above the shield sits a helmet topped with the arm of a Bajan holding crossed sugar cane stalks, symbolizing the island’s sugar heritage. The national motto “Pride and Industry” completes the design along with the coin’s face value and purity.
 
Reverse
 
The reverse depicts a pelican perched on a pier post with its wings fully extended, shown from the rear as it overlooks the ocean. Stylized clouds rise above the bird while waves roll beneath, creating a scenic Caribbean coastal setting. Inscriptions include “Caribbean Silver,” the year of issue, and the silver purity.
