The epic poem Beowulf, believed to have been composed between the 10th and 11th centuries, is one of the earliest surviving works of English literature. The story follows the heroic warrior Beowulf as he travels to aid the Danish king Hrothgar, whose great hall has been plagued by the monstrous creature Grendel.
