The 2024 Intaglio Mint 1 oz Silver Mothman – Cryptozoology Series (BU) round commemorates one of America’s most infamous cryptid legends. Struck in .999 fine silver, this Brilliant Uncirculated release captures the eerie presence of the Mothman, a winged creature first reported in West Virginia during the late 1960s.
 
The first known sighting occurred on November 12, 1966, in Clendenin, West Virginia, when five men digging a grave reported seeing a man-like figure flying low over their heads. Just days later, on November 15, 1966, two couples near Point Pleasant described a large flying creature with ten-foot wings and glowing red eyes. Numerous additional sightings followed, including reports of electrical disturbances and unusual animal behavior.
 
On December 15, 1967, the collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant claimed 46 lives. The tragedy became permanently linked to prior Mothman sightings, cementing the creature’s place in American folklore. This release in the Cryptozoology Series pays tribute to that enduring legend through detailed engraving and dramatic design elements.
