Item Description

The 2024 Australia 1 oz Silver Dragon continues the celebrated tradition of the Australian Lunar Series III, one of the most respected and widely collected bullion programs in the global precious metals market. Struck by the renowned Perth Mint, this issue represents the Year of the Dragon, the fifth release in the third Lunar Series cycle.

Produced from 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine silver, the coin delivers exceptional purity, craftsmanship, and intrinsic value. Each release in the Lunar Series is issued with a strict annual mintage limit, and the 2024 Dragon coin is capped at 300,000 pieces worldwide, helping maintain strong collector demand and long-term appeal.

The Lunar program draws inspiration from the Chinese Zodiac, where each year is represented by a different animal symbol. Among them, the Dragon holds a unique status as the most revered figure in Chinese mythology, representing power, prosperity, and authority.

Combining cultural symbolism, limited production, and world-class minting quality, the 2024 Year of the Dragon silver coin remains a standout addition for both investors and collectors seeking internationally recognized bullion with lasting numismatic appeal.

Design Details

Obverse

The obverse showcases a dramatic depiction of a Chinese dragon moving above stylized ocean waves. The design captures the mythical creature’s energy and authority while incorporating inscriptions for “DRAGON 2024” along with the corresponding Chinese character for dragon.

Reverse

The reverse features a Chinese lunar calendar–inspired wheel design divided into twelve segments, each displaying one of the animals from the Chinese Zodiac. Surrounding the outer ring are detailed depictions of the zodiac animals including the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig, representing the full twelve-year lunar cycle.

At the center of the design is a circular medallion containing the inscription “ONE OUNCE .999 FINE SILVER.” Surrounding this central field are stylized Bagua-style trigrams and geometric motifs, symbolizing balance, harmony, and the cyclical nature of time within traditional Chinese cosmology.

The intricate wheel layout visually represents the Chinese lunar calendar, with each animal occupying its place within the repeating zodiac cycle.

Cultural Significance

Within the Chinese Zodiac, the Dragon is considered the most powerful and auspicious sign. Individuals born under the Dragon are traditionally associated with strength, intelligence, ambition, and leadership.

Chinese legend often portrays dragons as benevolent forces that bring rainfall and prosperity to the land. In one well-known myth, a dragon sacrifices its chance at celestial victory to bring rain to a drought-stricken village, reinforcing its role as a symbol of nobility and protection.
