Design Details

The coin’s design honors Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, located in Ohio. The artwork commemorates Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry and the American naval victory during the Battle of Lake Erie while also symbolizing the long-standing peace between the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. The expansive canvas of the five-ounce format allows the monument and surrounding elements to be rendered with remarkable depth and clarity.

Obverse

The obverse features the classic left-facing portrait of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan for the Washington Quarter in 1932. Surrounding inscriptions include “The United States of America,” “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “Quarter Dollar.” The design remains one of the most enduring portraits in modern U.S. coinage.

Reverse

The reverse showcases a striking depiction of the statue of Oliver Hazard Perry standing before the towering Peace Memorial. The monument rises prominently in the background, symbolizing both victory and the lasting peace between nations. Inscriptions include “Perry’s Victory,” “Ohio,” “E Pluribus Unum,” and “2013.”
