Loyd Hewitt founded Draper Mint in 1960 in the city of Draper, Utah. A veteran of World War II, Hewitt served as an officer for the United States Army Air Corps. He later used his GI Bill benefits to earn a geophysics degree from the University of Utah. His career took him across North America as a mineral surveyor before he ultimately started the Draper Mint.
Each 5 oz Swiss of America Vintage Silver Round included in this listing may have one of several potential designs. These rounds are packaged using either plastic flips, protective plastic bags, or a plastic wrapping. These pieces feature rimless blanks, which are a signature characteristic of Swiss of America rounds. Once payment is processed, a round will be selected at random from the available stock. Specific designs cannot be guaranteed.
The obverse, or front, of the Swiss of America Vintage Silver Round comes with different possible designs. One example pictures an American Minuteman from the Revolutionary War holding a musket as a bald eagle soars above. Another possible design is a heraldic eagle.
