The name originates from the Portuguese word for “card,” referencing the card-like shape of the armor pieces. The fierce Samurai mask worn by the warrior was historically designed not only to protect the face but also to intimidate enemies on the battlefield.
 
During certain periods of Japanese history, silver bars were also used as a form of currency known as Shu-Gin, linking this piece symbolically to the economic and martial traditions of feudal Japan.
