The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt. Included is a special commemorative mark with four pearls, symbolizing the four effigies that appeared on Canadian coinage during her reign. Dual dates marking her years as monarch are also present, reinforcing the commemorative nature of the design.
Reverse
The reverse presents a dramatic depiction of a sabre-tooth cat lunging directly toward the viewer, jaws open in a display of primal intensity. This striking artwork was created by Canadian paleoartist Julius Csotonyi. Adjacent to the design is an advanced micro-engraved maple leaf security feature containing the number “23,” denoting the year of release.
