Historical Background
In 1588, the Clans MacIan and McDonald of Scotland suffered devastating attacks, as villages were burned and sacked by Clan MacLean forces supported by approximately 100 mercenaries from the San Juan de Sicilia, a ship of the Spanish Armada. When reinforcements from the MacIan and McDonald clans arrived, the attackers withdrew, and the Spanish mercenaries returned to their vessel.
Soon afterward, a massive explosion rocked the bay, sending the gold-laden galleon to the bottom of the sea. Whether this dramatic event was an act of calculated revenge by the MacIan or McDonald clans remains unknown. The truth has never been confirmed, leaving the story suspended between history and legend.
This 2 oz Destiny Silver Round stands as a powerful tribute to courage, choice, and unresolved history, making it a compelling piece for collectors, historians, and those drawn to the enduring mysteries of the past.
